What we do

The aim of the Basingstoke Junior Bison is to offer leisure time opportunities in ice hockey to young people, which will enable them to develop in body, mind and spirit while improving their standard of playing ability to their full potential. This will include learning how to play as a team, and fostering respect for fellow team members, opponents, coaches, equipment and playing facilities (home and away).

The Junior Section will attempt to provide:-

a Hockey Basics for Juniors programme
as many teams in as many of the age groups run by the English Ice Hockey Association (EIHA) as numbers and ice availability permits.

The activity must also be conducted in a manner that provides for the safety and well-being of Under 18s with full written parental consent and the Clubs Designated Safe Guarding Lead acting as a point of contact for any complaints related to minors in the care of adults, as stipulated in the EIHA ruling in June 2002

Our Mission

  • To do all things possible to help develop the skills and abilities of each and every player.
  • To instil sportsmanship and encourage fair play, while developing a healthy, competitive attitude in a fun and supportive environment.
  • To advocate, on behalf of players and families, the ability to play hockey where they choose, without boundary restrictions.
  • To support, advocate and represent our players as developing elite athletes, aspiring to play hockey at the highest levels.
  • To use hockey as a training tool to help players become better people, instilling upon them hard work, respect, cooperation and dedication.
  • To encourage academic excellence, stressing to our players the importance of education and helping them potentially reach their hockey goals.

Together, we can make youth Ice Hockey a life-changing experience!

We believe in learning.  We understand how learning works and have built a scientific, evidenced-based curriculum around these principles. It’s going to be hard, and it’s going to be ugly, but we know that together we can learn and achieve anything we are willing to work for.

We believe in age-appropriate, long-term athletic development and are completely against the short-term, win-at-all-costs culture.

We believe we have the responsibility to harness the power of youth sports to build better people, closer families, and a better world.
